WESTERN GHATS The locations in Kerala are forests of Idukki, peermedu and devikulam area, Ponmudi, Tenmala and silent valley of the mannarghat range which support a large species population. It has been observed that there are around 186 species and of which 91 are endemic to the region. Peristylis richardianus is endemic to the south only.Dendrobium mabelae, Liparis wrayii, Pomatocalpa mannii and smithsonia maculata are new records to the region.One variety of Acampe i.e..Acampe congesta has been observed here.Another Paphiopedilum druyeri is almost on the verge of extingtion.
