The Maranta group contains four closely-related members-Maranta,Calathea,Ctenanthe,and Stromanthe. The outstanding feature of all these plants is their superior foliage,bearing coloured veins or prominent blotches on abackground which ranges from near white to almost black.The plants in the Maranta group have anumber of requirements in common-protection fromthe direct rays of Sun,a need of high humidity,a hatred of cold draughts and avital need for warmth in winter. Grown under partial shade .Can be grown in pots. High Humidity is needed. The Marantas and Stromanthe are low growing,rarely exceeding 8 inin hight.The two popular varieties-M.leuconeura kerchoveana and M.tricolour are not at all difficult to grow.The common name of PRAYER PLANT describes their curious habit of folding and raising their leaves at night. The Calatheas and Ctenanthe are generally taller and more difficult to care for. Water with care.The compost must be kept moist at all times.
